Baylor Rocket League Earns Program’s First No. 1 Spot in Power Ranking
WACO, Texas — The Baylor Rocket League varsity team has been dominant in its first year of competition and is being rewarded for its efforts, claiming the top spot in the week’s Power Rankings by two of the four members of the Champ League Show.
The show features top Rocket League commentators, including Oliver Bass (@BassFromThePast), Danger Taco (@TheDangerTaco), Vodible (@Vodible) and Speed (@Speed_RL), discussing the collegiate esports and Rocket League news. The weekly power rankings offer a snapshot of the current top teams.
Baylor took the top spot in two of the rankings (Danger Taco and Vodible) and placed 2nd by Bass and 3rd by Speed, the only program to receive unanimous top 3 rankings.
Baylor is currently 3-0 in group play and will continue play through April 19, facing off against the top teams in the country. Teams remaining on the schedule include Ball State, Concord, Davenport, Maryville, Northwood, Cumberland, St. Clair, Syracuse, Akron Blue, Akron Gold, Wichita State and Winthrop. The Spring Championships in early May will include the top 4 in League Play, in what would be a remarkable feat in the program’s inaugural season. Prizes in the Spring Championships include Scholastic Award Distributions that are split evenly among the players, recognizing hard work and dedication throughout the season.

Baylor Esports was formally established in 2025 with the hiring of Adam Stanley as the program’s first director and varsity coach. For the inaugural 2025-2026 season, Baylor is sponsoring a three-person Rocket League team, with professional gamers Colby “hockser” James, Andrew “Andy” Nolan and Kadin “Zineel” Zineelabidine already making waves in the global esports community.
The varsity competition program enhances a longstanding gaming culture within the campus community, joining Oso Esports, Baylor’s gaming club that was established in 2017. Baylor Esports continues to build partnerships with Oso to form the Baylor Esports Academy – similar to professional soccer academies – to train and elevate student-athletes for future varsity rosters in expanded gaming competitions.
